A tragic road accident near Busowa Police Station in Bugiri District has left ten people dead and three others critically injured, according to police and local authorities.

The incident occurred when the driver of a Toyota Hiace taxi, registration number UBN 817H, reportedly lost control and rammed into a parked trailer, UA 647BA. Preliminary police findings point to reckless driving and speeding as the primary causes of the fatal crash.

Busowa Town Council Mayor, Naminya Badiru, described the scene as “horrific,” noting that all ten victims died on the spot.

> “The incident was terrible. Initial reports indicate the taxi driver was speeding, lost control, and hit the trailer from behind. We urge motorists to avoid speeding and dangerous road behaviour,” the mayor said.

Eyewitness Kisige Tifu, who spoke to DailyExpress, expressed concern over the rise in fatal accidents during the festive season.

> “Speeding caused this tragedy. Christmas periods always come with such incidents. Authorities need to enforce traffic laws more strictly,” he warned.

Police confirmed the accident, with Busoga East Region Police Spokesperson ASP Michael Kasadha revealing that the three survivors were rushed to Bugiri General Hospital in critical condition.

The tragic crash adds to growing fears over increased road carnage as the festive season approaches, with authorities repeatedly urging drivers to exercise caution.

More updates will be provided as details emerge.
